Alfa MiTo awarded five-star Euro NCAP Crash Safety rating

The Alfa MiTo has scored 36 points out of a maximum 37 in the Euro NCAP adult safety ratings and a judgement of "Good" with a score of 3.35 in new tests introduced to assess the ability of the front seats to prevent whiplash. MiTo finished top in it's segment and second overall proving Alfa Romeo's commitment to driver and passenger protection.

The Alfa MiTo was designed to obtain the maximum score in passive and active safety tests. The results of this intensive virtual design led to 200 physical tests on components and subsystems, over 100 impact simulations on a Hyge slide and more than 80 crash tests. Areas focused on during testing - frontal impact, side impact, roll over and rear impact, taking into account various speeds at which impact occurs, different types of obstacles and varying physical characteristics of occupants.

The sporty new MiTo is state-of-the-art as far as safety is concerned, with sophisticated electronic systems for control of vehicle behaviour (from braking to traction), Vehicle Dynamic Control that manages traction control, assisted emergency braking, MSR to prevent the wheels locking during over-run, DST (Dynamic Steering Torque) for active electronic steering and Q2 Electronic that simulates the presence of self-locking differential electronically.

Alfa Romeo's commitment to passenger safety is evident inside and out with a contribution to occupant protection made by the MiTo's body shell, the bonnet, door and the dashboard cross member in addition to the seats and steering column which have been designed with a particular view to their behaviour in the event of an accident.

It's no surprise the MiTo is one of the safest cars both in it's segment and on the road.

Prices and specifications to be announced when the Alfa Romeo MiTo hits showrooms across Australia mid 2009.
